One in all my favourite issues to do in Rome is sit at a restaurant on the piazza, sip on a spritz and watch Italians speak to one another. Their palms transfer simply as shortly as they converse — a type of conversational dance. I used to be consuming gelato once I discovered that a few of these gestures really imply one thing: A brand new pal twisted their index finger into their cheek whereas saying “che buono!” that means “It’s so good!” I quickly found there’s a gesture for nearly the whole lot: being scared, telling somebody to not fear, spaghetti and (after all), some ruder ones. Whereas I nonetheless battle with the language, studying gestures together with the phrases has made it just a little extra enjoyable.
